BSF Meghalaya Foils Smuggling Attempt of Cosmetics Worth Rupees 47 Lakh on International Border
On January 17, 2023, troops from the 193 Bn BSF Meghalaya successfully thwarted an attempt by smugglers to smuggle cosmetics worth 47 lakh rupees into Bangladesh.
The consignment was intercepted as it was being transported across a riverine patch near the village of Barmanbari in the East Khasi Hills.
When challenged by the BSF, the smugglers fled the scene, leaving behind the confiscated items. The seized cosmetics have been handed over to customs for further investigation and legal proceedings. The high demand for Indian cosmetics in Bangladesh often leads to illegal smuggling of these items.
