China Objects Indo-US Military Exercise

The joint military exercise between India and the US close to the LAC at the China-India border goes against the spirit of agreement between the two countries in 1993 and 1996, according to China’s Foreign Ministry.
Expressing concerns of military exercises, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijan stated that, “it does not serve the mutual trust between China and India”, while speaking to reporters on Wednesday.
It may be mentioned that China’s reference of the 1993 and 1996 agreement draws attention to the PLA’s attempts on its increased activity in eastern Ladakh in May 2020 which violated the bilateral agreements.
The annual ‘Yudh Abhyas’ is currently underway in Uttarakhand, 100 km away from the LAC. With an aim to exchange humanitarian and disaster relief operations, the nearly two-week military exercise is conducted annually to enhance techniques between armies of the two nations.
