In the latest surge of ethnic violence in Manipur, five Meiteis lost their lives, with four Border Security Force (BSF) personnel sustaining injuries during the Wednesday night and Thursday morning attacks.

The incident unfolded at Ningthoukhong Kha Khunou, claiming the lives of a man and his 60-year-old father, along with Oinam Manitomba (37) and Thiyam Somen (56).

Bishnupur Superintendent of Police, Meghachandra Singh, reported, “Four persons were killed in an attack by armed miscreants on Thursday afternoon. We have managed to recover all the bodies and sent them to Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Imphal for postmortem and other formalities.”

According to reports, following the assault, the assailants fled to nearby hill ranges, evading authorities. This recent tragedy compounds the toll of violence in Manipur to seven deaths, including two police commandos, across separate districts since Wednesday.

Ethnic tensions have plagued the state since May last year, resulting in a grim tally of over 180 fatalities.
