Shillong to Host G20 Meeting Among 56 Cities

Shillong has been selected as one of the locations to host a G20 Sherpa meeting as part of India’s presidency of the G20 from December 2022 to November 2023. The Indian government plans to hold these meetings in 56 cities across the country, including Bangalore, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Thiruvananthapuram, Chandigarh, Mahabalipuram and Khajuraho.

The goal is to hold these meetings in lesser-explored parts of the country. In preparation for the G20 meeting, the India Tourism Shillong and the Airports Authority of India held a sensitization program for local employees and taxi drivers. Additionally, around 1,000 tourist guides, including 146 who speak foreign languages, will be available at the 56 locations hosting G20 meetings to assist foreign delegates and provide a unique Indian experience.
