Biswanath Ghat in Assam named best tourism village of India 2023

Biswanath Ghat, situated in Assam’s picturesque Sonitpur district, has clinched the prestigious title of the Best Tourism Village of India 2023, as announced by the Ministry of Tourism, on Friday. The selection, made from a pool of 791 applicants representing 31 states and union territories, was celebrated by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who lauded the state’s tireless efforts to promote rural tourism.

Sarma revealed, “Happy to share that Biswanath Ghat has been selected as the Best Tourism Village of India 2023 by the Ministry of Tourism. Selected from amongst 791 applications from 31 States and UTs, Biswanath Ghat’s selection reflects the huge efforts that our government has taken in promoting rural tourism in Assam.”

Recognizing the pivotal role of tourism in socio-economic development, the Assam cabinet had granted industrial status to the tourism sector last year. This decision aimed to boost investment and bolster infrastructure for tourism-related ventures. Moreover, Assam has been proactively advancing its tourism agenda by organizing road shows in metropolitan cities and actively participating in domestic and international trade fairs and exhibitions.
