Indian Army’s Eastern Command hosts grand defence event ‘East Tech 2023’ in Guwahati

In a grand inaugural ceremony at the Maniram Dewan Trade Centre, ‘East Tech 2023’ kicked off today on October 10, attracting dignitaries from the realms of politics, military, and industry. The event, initiated by the Eastern Army Command in collaboration with the Ministry of Commerce and Industries, Government of Assam, aimed to identify and harness advanced technologies to address operational challenges in the Eastern Theatre and the Indian Army at large.

‘East tech 2023’ focuses on providing technological solutions to enhance defense capabilities, covering areas such as Battlefield Transparency, Command and Control Architecture, Communication Systems, Information Dominance, Electronic Warfare, Nano Technology/MEMS, Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, Unmanned Warfare Systems, Mobility, Chemical-Biological-Nuclear (CBRN) Defense, Advanced Weapon Systems, Survival Systems, and Non-Lethal Weapons.

From the hallowed halls of IIT Guwahati to the forefront of industry leaders, these innovations, proudly designed and developed within India, captured the imagination of attendees and redefining the boundaries of technological advancement.

 

The event’s inauguration was graced by Chief Guest Bimal Borah, Minister for Industries, Commerce & Public Enterprises, and Cultural Affairs. In attendance were prominent figures such as Ravi Kota, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary for Industries, Commerce & Public Enterprises, Lieutenant General RP Kalita, General Officer Commanding in Chief, Eastern Command, Lieutenant General RC Srikanth, Chief of Staff, Head Quarter Eastern Command, and Lieutenant General Manish Erry, Corps Commander, Gajraj Corps, among others.

Following the inauguration, Bimal Bora, Minister Cultural Affairs, Commerce & Industries, Government of Assam, delivered a keynote address where he underscored the enduring partnership between Assam and the Indian Army, expressing gratitude on behalf of Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma. The minister also highlighted Assam’s commitment to fostering a progressive business environment and commended East Tech 2023 for promoting contemporary technologies and hardware solutions. He expressed hope that the event would attract investors to the defense sector in the North East, particularly in Assam, given its proximity to ASEAN countries.

Indian Defense Manufacturers, including MSMEs, DRDO, and DPSUs, responded enthusiastically to the event, converging from all corners of the country to showcase their latest and most advanced weapon and equipment technology.

Over two hundred stalls were allocated to around one hundred and fifty investment partners, providing a platform to display and demonstrate their specialised expertise. East Tech 2023 signifies a new era of ‘Soldering Through Self Reliance,’ emphasising the development and integration of indigenous and niche technologies in the defense sector.
