The Chief of Army Staff (CoAS), General Manoj Pande, visited units and formations along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Arunachal Pradesh on Sunday. He was briefed on the operational preparedness and security situation and complimented the troops for maintaining sharp vigilance. He also exhorted them to continue working with the same zeal and devotion, according to officials.

In December, the Indian Army had reported an incident involving the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) near the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Tawang Sector. According to a statement, on December 9, PLA troops contacted the LAC and were met by Indian troops in a firm and resolute manner. The confrontation resulted in minor injuries to personnel from both sides.

After the incident, both sides disengaged and the Indian commander in the area held a flag meeting with the counterpart to address the issue and restore peace and tranquility in accordance with established protocols. According to sources, in the Tawang Sector of Arunachal Pradesh, there are areas where perceptions differ, with both sides patrolling up to their respective claim lines, which has reportedly been the trend since 2006.
