Congress MP Manish Tewari has submitted an adjournment notice in the Lok Sabha on the China border issue, in light of the ongoing controversy surrounding Adani Group and calls for an investigation into allegations of fraud and stock manipulation.

The notice seeks to suspend the day’s scheduled business, including the Zero Hour, for a discussion on the border situation with China. Tewari states that since April 2020, China has been engaging in a steady land grab and despite 17 rounds of commander-level talks between India and China, there has been little progress. He also highlighted that China is continuing to build infrastructure such as bridges, roads, and housing for its troops, and is trying to change the status quo unilaterally.

Tewari expressed his concern over China’s steady aggression towards changing the status quo on the border, which was demonstrated by the recent clashes in the Tawang sector in Arunachal Pradesh. He noted that this aggression is no longer limited to a specific region and that it is now taking place far from previous conflict areas. He also highlighted the growing worry that China is unwilling to restore the previous state of affairs, putting India at a significant disadvantage.

Despite this, he said that China’s trade surplus with India has continued to grow since the military confrontations started in 2020 and the trade deficit for India now stands at USD 101.02 billion, surpassing the 2021 figure of USD 69.38 billion. Tewari urged the government to take this matter seriously and to have a thorough discussion in Parliament about the border situation with China, and requests permission to raise this issue.
