Amidst an ongoing dispute over the inter-state boundary along the Arunachal Pradesh border in Assam’s Dhemaji district, two individuals have lost their lives, and three others are currently missing following an alleged incident of firing.

The incident took place on Monday, coinciding with the observance of World Environment Day, as locals had organized a plantation drive at the inter-state border area. Superintendent of Police (SP) Ranjan Bhuyan stated that seven villagers had gone ahead in the morning to make the necessary arrangements.

According to a report, seven villagers had gone in advance to make the arrangements in the morning. They allegedly came under firing, in which one person died on the spot, he said.

The injured individuals were promptly taken to the Dhemaji Civil Hospital by local residents, where one of them succumbed to their injuries, according to Superintendent of Police (SP) Ranjan Bhuyan.

Additionally, three individuals remain missing, and the police have initiated a search operation to locate them.
