Defence Minister Rajnath Singh emphasised the government’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding the integrity of India’s borders and assured that discussions were underway at both military and diplomatic levels to peacefully resolve issues with China.

Speaking at a national security conclave on Tuesday, Singh acknowledged the longstanding differences in perception between India and China regarding the boundary issue.

He firmly dismissed claims of significant changes or encroachments on the Line of Actual Control (LAC) since the formation of the government in 2013, while paying tribute to the martyred soldiers of Galwan Valley. Singh praised the valor and dedication of the Indian Army in thwarting the unilateral attempts by the Chinese PLA to alter the status quo, emphasising that their sacrifice would be eternally remembered with pride.

Despite challenges, Singh reiterated India’s preference for peaceful resolutions and emphasized that the government would ensure the sanctity of India’s borders, its honor, and self-respect.

Furthermore, he highlighted the government’s focus on border infrastructure development and the welfare of border residents, regarding them as strategic assets for the country. The government’s efforts encompass significant infrastructure projects from Ladakh to Arunachal Pradesh and a desire to encourage settlement in forward villages for their benefit.

“We are pained when attempts are made to question the bravery of the soldiers to corner the government. The people of the country are proud of their armed forces,” he said.

“The talks are going on at military and diplomatic levels. We want to assure you that we will not compromise on India’s border, its honour and self-respect.

“We will never allow violation of the sanctity of our borders,” the defence minister said, adding that the government has learnt from the 1962 war with China and has focused on building border infrastructure.
