In a series of tweets on Wednesday, Congress Leader Jairam Ramesh expressed his concern over the ongoing crisis that continued to grip the state of Manipur. The absence of a response from the country’s leader has raised questions and drawn criticism. Calling out the Prime Minister’s conspicuous silence regarding the dire situation, Ramesh’s tweet questioned the absence of a visit by the Prime Minister to the troubled state.

The Congress leader also urged the Prime Minister to consider organizing an all-party delegation to visit Manipur, showcasing unity and a collective effort to find a solution.

“The Home Minister visited belatedly after a month and the nation must be thankful for small mercies. But why is the Prime Minister still silent? Why doesnt he visit the state and make an appeal for reconciliation between communities? Why can’t he at least encourage an all-Party delegation to go to Manipur?” he tweeted on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the Union Home Minister has taken action by establishing a three-member committee to investigate the matter. Additionally, Home Minister Amit Shah made an appeal to the people of the northeastern state, urging them to lift the blockades on the Imphal-Dimapur national highway. The committee, headed by former Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court, Ajai Lamba, includes retired IAS officer Himanshu Shekhar Das and retired IPS officer Aloka Prabhakar as its members.

During his recent four-day visit to Manipur, where he assessed the situation and engaged in discussions with various stakeholders, Home Minister Shah appealed to civil society organizations to play their part in fostering consensus and restoring peace. Emphasising the collective responsibility, Shah stated, “Together only we can restore normalcy in this beautiful state.”
