In a statement on Wednesday, NCP chief Sharad Pawar expressed concern over Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s apparent disregard for the situation in Manipur, emphasising the significance of the northeast region and its sensitivity, particularly in relation to China’s border.

The former defence minister argued that the Modi government has remained passive in its response to developments in Manipur. He further highlighted that while Modi had delivered a brief video message and touched upon Manipur during the Monsoon session’s debate on the no-confidence motion, he failed to visit the state or address the concerns of its people directly. Instead, Pawar criticised Modi’s decision to prioritize election campaigns in Madhya Pradesh over instilling confidence in the northeast populace.

“Modi should go to the northeast and give confidence to the people, but he did not think it important,” Pawar said.

The NCP chief concluded by urging the Prime Minister to allocate attention to the region, emphasising the need for reassurance and engagement with the local population.
