Union Minister of State (Home) Nityanand Rai and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Sambit Patra made an official visit to Churachandpur today at the 27th Sector AR HQ, Tuibuang. The visit comes in anticipation of the upcoming visit of Home Minister Shri Amit Shah, scheduled for Monday. The official met various stakeholders from the Zomi and Kuki Civil society organisations along with the Indigenous Tribal Leaders’ Forum leaders.

During the meeting, the visiting officials listened to the concerns raised by the stakeholders which included issues such as human rights abuses, the demand to classify radical groups like the Meitei Leepun and Arambai Tenggol as terrorist organizations, and the call for a Separate Administration for the tribal community. To emphasise the urgency of the situation, the stakeholders submitted a memorandum, urging immediate intervention by the central government to resolve the impasses in Manipur. They emphasised that a political solution must precede lasting peace.

According to news sources, during a meeting held yesterday in Kangpokpi, the Civil Society organisations reiterated their stance that talks can only commence after the removal of the Chief Minister from his position.

However, amidst these developments, reports have emerged of gunfights at the Churachandpur-Bishnupur border. At the time of writing this report, further details regarding these incidents are awaited.
