Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his visit to Assam, inaugurated the ambitious Rs 498 crore Kamakhya Corridor project on Sunday, declaring it as a potential tourism gateway to the Northeast. The Prime Minister unveiled multiple projects, totaling over Rs 11,000 crore, emphasizing the transformative impact these initiatives will have on the region.

Drawing inspiration from the Kashi-Vishwanath corridor, PM Modi laid the foundation stone for the Kamakhya Corridor, envisioning its significance as a pilgrimage site. He noted the success of the Kashi-Vishwanath corridor, which attracted around 8.5 crore devotees in the past year, expressing confidence in the Kamakhya project’s potential to replicate this success.

With an eye on the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, PM Modi assured that his commitments would not only spur economic development in Assam but also strengthen ties within the country and with neighboring South Asian nations. Emphasizing the Northeast’s role as a gateway to Southeast Asia, he underscored the importance of connectivity projects under the South Asia Subregional Economic Cooperation (SASEC) program.

Discussing the BJP’s core policy, the Prime Minister highlighted achievements in Assam and the Northeast, focusing on connectivity, healthcare, tourism, and sports as key areas of positive transformation. He expressed optimism that the rapid development in the Northeast would mirror the progress observed in South East Asia.

He also applauded the signing of peace agreements with Ulfa and other insurgent groups, leading to the withdrawal of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act from most of the Northeast.

Asserting that those challenges are now part of the past, Modi highlighted the transformation of once-disturbed areas into peaceful regions, attributing it to the resolution of border disputes and the signing of over 10 significant peace agreements since the BJP government’s formation.
